It pays to measure a pontoon deck carefully before you order vinyl flooring, because we cut every order to length. This guide shows what to measure, how the vinyl widths work and how much adhesive to plan for.

Step 1: Measure the length

First, measure the deck from front to back at its longest point. We sell vinyl flooring by the foot, so the length is the number you order.

However, do not order the bare deck length. MariDeck’s instructions call for the vinyl to overhang the deck on all four sides. Therefore, add extra length before you order.

Step 2: Measure the width

Next, measure the deck at its widest point and compare it with the width of the vinyl. MariDeck 80 mil, MariDeck woven and DuraVinyl all come about 8.5 ft wide, which is 102 inches. However, MariDeck 34 mil comes 6 ft or 8.5 ft wide, depending on the color.

If your deck is wider than the vinyl, you will need a seam. In that case, MariDeck’s instructions say to keep seams out of sight, for example under seats.

Step 3: Plan the adhesive

Multiply the length by the width to get the square footage. For example, a deck that is 8.5 ft wide and 20 ft long is 170 square feet.

  • MD-101, for MariDeck on unsealed plywood, covers about 125 square feet per gallon. Therefore, that deck needs two gallons.
  • MD-102, for MariDeck on aluminum, fiberglass and sealed wood, covers 50 to 60 square feet per gallon. Therefore, the same area needs three to four gallons.
  • For DuraVinyl, use 390 Professional adhesive instead.

Step 4: Place your order

Choose your flooring and color, and then enter the length in feet. We cut it to order. The minimum order is 5 ft.

Measuring aluminum and fiberglass boats

Most aluminum and fiberglass boats need the vinyl pre-cut into shapes that fit each area. Therefore, measure each area separately, and allow enough coverage for each piece.
