Vinyl Boat Flooring FAQ
Which vinyl flooring is right for my boat?
MariDeck comes in 34 mil, 80 mil and Ultra Woven. The 34 mil is the lighter, thinner option, and the 80 mil is more than twice as thick. Ultra Woven and DuraVinyl are woven vinyls, with the look of a woven floor and a surface that sheds water. Call us at 888-283-0704 and we will help you choose.
What widths does it come in?
MariDeck 34 mil comes 6 ft (72 inches) or 8.5 ft (102 inches) wide, depending on the color. The 6 ft width suits aluminum fishing boats. MariDeck 80 mil, Ultra Woven and DuraVinyl come only 8.5 ft wide, which fits most pontoon decks.
Is vinyl flooring slippery when wet?
MariDeck has an embossed, slip-resistant surface. However, any floor needs care when it is wet.
Can I install it myself?
Yes. You need a tape measure, scissors, a utility knife, a push broom or linoleum roller, a 9-inch medium-nap roller with an extension, a small-nap roller and some rags. Install when it is at least 45°F and rising.
Which adhesive do I need?
For MariDeck, choose by your floor. Use MD-101 on unsealed wood, such as plywood, marine-grade plywood or pressure-treated wood. Use MD-102 on aluminum, fiberglass or sealed wood. MariDeck recommends its own adhesive. If you use a different one, it must be PVC-compatible, or it can affect how the vinyl looks, bonds and performs. For DuraVinyl, use 390 Professional adhesive.
How much adhesive should I order?
MD-101 covers about 125 square feet per gallon, because it goes on the floor only. MD-102 covers about 50 to 60 square feet per gallon, because it goes on both the floor and the back of the vinyl.
Do I need to replace my pontoon deck?
Often, yes. Old pontoon decks are frequently soft or rotted. Use 3/4-inch pressure-treated or marine-grade plywood, screw it down well, and keep gaps between sheets to 1/32 inch or less. Do not seal plywood that will get MD-101.
How soon can I use my boat?
With MD-101, you can walk on the floor right away, although foot traffic can cause small wrinkles. In dry weather between 60 and 90°F, it dries in 2 to 3 hours. Let it dry overnight before you put the seats back. With MD-102, wait at least 1 hour before installing seats or equipment.
I see bubbles after installing. What do I do?
If MD-102 went on too thick, small gas pockets can appear about a day later. Do not cut them or seal the edges. They usually flatten in 2 to 3 days, and sunlight helps.
How do I clean MariDeck flooring?
Scrub with warm water, a little mild dish soap and a soft deck brush, then rinse well. For mildew or light stains, citrus cleaners or Simple Green work well. For tough stains, try Spray Nine. Use bleaching cleaners such as Tilex or CLR only as a last resort, rinse them off quickly, and test on a hidden spot first, because bleach can fade the printed pattern. Clean the floor at the end of each season, before you store the boat. Our guide to cleaning and care for marine vinyl flooring has the full steps.
How do I clean DuraVinyl flooring?
Vacuum or hose it off weekly, and clean it with mild soap and a soft brush. Do not power wash it, and avoid harsh cleaners and solvents.
What warranty comes with the flooring?
MariDeck carries a two-year limited warranty, and DuraVinyl carries a ten-year limited warranty, both from the manufacturer. See our Warranty page for details.
How does shipping work?
Orders over $75 ship free, and orders under $75 ship for a flat $15. Every order ships directly from the factory. MariDeck orders usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, and DuraVinyl orders within 2 to 7 business days. We do not ship to Alaska, Hawaii or Canada. See our Shipping page for details.
Can I return my order?
Yes, you can return uncut material within 30 days of delivery. Call us first at 888-283-0704. You pay the return shipping, and a 20% restocking fee applies. Vinyl that has been cut to length cannot be returned. See our Returns page for details.
